THE LANCEL SPIRIT

Founded by Alphonse and Angèle in Paris, Lancel started launching a line of accessories for smokers signed “a. Lancel.” 

In the 1900 the brand comes to signify the ideal Parisian lifestyle, from personal accessories to elegant gifts, launches numerous innovative designs like the umbrella bag and the automatic lighter and moves to a four-story location at 8 Place de l’Opéra in the heart of Paris. 

In 2016 Lancel celebrates 140 years of history, daring style and savoir-faire, always embodying a concept of luxury that is intuitive, liberating and relevant to life’s every moment.  

The brand is infused with the spirit of the Parisian boulevards mingling work and play, the capital and the rest of France, men and women from all walks of life.

Lancel creates in 1956 the first soft-sided baggage, the “kangourou,” made from nylon canvas and equipped with an outside pocket.

The Champs-elysées location opens in 1981. the iconic Bucket bag is reinvented and in 1987 becomes the best- selling elsa. Lancel goes international.

Lancel creates ad campaigns full of surprises and fun: color, modernity and sparkling humor. in 1997 the maison is acquired by Richemont.

Taking inspiration from its archives, Lancel creates “First Flirt” in 2006.

The Charlie bag is created. With its unisex name, grained leather and considered detailing, Charlie embodies the Lancel spirit.
